What is SpeechSTAR?
SpeechSTAR Speech Therapy Animation Resource is a web resource to help children with speech sound disorder. SpeechSTAR contains vocal tract animations based on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) recordings of real speech. It aims to be useful for Speech and Language Therapists, their clients, families and friends, both in clinic and at home. SpeechSTAR contains animations of the vocal organs moving during speech sounds, including the consonants of English, and common consonantal substitutions. It also has videos showing how Ultrasound Tongue Imaging works and can be used in therapy. SpeechSTAR has been constructed by a team of researchers based at the University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde. The project has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.
